CHARLOTTE, NC — Expect crews working overnight through the end of the week on both sides of I-485 near Ballantyne Commons Parkway and expect traffic delays.
The work is taking place from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. but for those traveling that section of I-485, there will be lane closures and rolling road blocks, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
It’s all part of the I-485 express lanes project in southeast Charlotte. The plan is for the existing two-lane bridge on Ballantyne Commons Parkway to be replaced with a new, four-lane bridge, approximately 300 feet long with 12-foot sidewalks and a concrete median.
The following lane closures are scheduled to allow crews to safely set girders for the new bridge:
Wednesday night/Thursday morning
- Double left lane closures on the inner loop from Rea to Providence Roads from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Double right lane closures on the outer loop from Providence to Rea Roads from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Four rolling roadblock operations from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. to move cranes
- Two will occur in each direction, each lasting 30 minutes
Thursday night/Friday morning
- Double left lane closures on the outer loop from Rea to Providence Roads from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Single left lane closure on the inner loop from Providence to Rea Roads from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Five rolling roadblock operations from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. to set girders, each lasting 30 minutes
Friday night/Saturday morning
- Double left lane closures on the outer loop from Rea to Providence Roads from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Single left lane closure on the inner loop from Providence to Rea Roads from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
