First, today’s weather:

Partly sunny and warm. High: 91 Low: 70.

Here are the top five stories in Charlotte today:

  1. An unforgettable, unrivaled shopping experience will soon take place at The Park Expo & Conference Center in Charlotte from Sept. 15 to Sept. 18. “The popularity of the RV lifestyle reached new heights in 2021. More families see the value in taking their family and fur babies on the road for adventures of a lifetime and priceless connections. Come and see the best variety of dealers and RVs available for any need and budget at the NCRVDA Show,” according to WCCB Charlotte. Text CAMP to 31403 by 10 a.m. on Sept. 12 for a chance to win four tickets to the NCRVDA Show. (WCCB Charlotte)
  2. The pandemic taught us all the importance of child care and the problems with what many call a broken system. Teachers say they aren’t getting paid well, and the business model means facilities struggle to stay open while North Carolina parents struggle to afford the care in the first place,” according to WCNC. The unsung heroes are the workers who care for your kids each day. But, WCNC reports, “many are getting out of the business for a variety of reasons, including low pay. A new state-funded program called WAGE$ is working to change that.” (WCNC.com)
  3. There will be a firefighter application signup at Charlotte Fire Headquarters on Sept. 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Applications for firefighter positions with Charlotte Fire are open from Sept. 16 – 30. “At the event, interested candidates can visit Charlotte Fire headquarters and talk with firefighters and staff to answer questions about career opportunities. Charlotte Fire’s human resources team will also have computer stations available to apply for firefighter positions and assist in the process. … Firefighters will be able to answer any questions related to firefighting and the hiring process,” according to the city government. 4. Bank of America is now offering first-time homebuyers in a select group of cities, including Charlotte, zero down payment, zero closing cost mortgages to help grow homeownership among Black and Hispanic communities. … The new mortgages are known as the “Community Affordable Loan Solution,” with the goal of helping more individuals and families obtain affordable loans,” according to WCNC. 5. Do you dream of being a reality TV star? A casting company that works with Netflix wants to make your dream come true! The company said it is casting for the hit Netflix series ‘The Ultimatum,’ which is about couples who must commit to getting married or break up. The dating reality show is produced by the same folks who brought us another Netflix smash hit, “Love is Blind,” reported WCNC.
