The boy had disappeared after getting off the school bus Thursday evening.
JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — A North Carolina Amber Alert for a missing Jacksonville boy has been canceled after the boy was found safe Friday.
The Jacksonville Police Department said in a Facebook afternoon the 6-year-old boy was found safe and in good health.
In a press conference on Friday afternoon, officials said he was found hiding underneath a trailer. The boy told police he was hiding underneath a house and fell asleep, but came out because he was hungry. When he came out and walked up to a neighbor, he said the neighbor then alerted officers.
Early Friday morning in a press conference, police said they were treating the disappearance of the missing boy as an abduction since they didn’t yet know what happened. He had previously last seen getting off the school bus Thursday afternoon.
“The outpouring of support in our local community by groups, churches, volunteers, neighbors and others is a testament to the great citizens of this community,” Chief Mike Yaniero, Jacksonville’s Director of Public Safety, said. “We truly are One City.”
In accordance with WCNC Charlotte policy, the name and photo of the child has been removed from this article now that he has been located safely.
